I Was Framed and Sent to Prison—Then My Cellmate Demanded My Only Keepsake
Previously: When Clara was wrongfully imprisoned, her only hope lay hidden in her worn-out sneakers. But when the prison bully cornered her in the yard, she had to make a devastating choice.
The Price of Freedom
Clara’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird, but she kept her gaze locked onto Brenda’s cold eyes. She realized this wasn't a random act of prison bullying. Brenda knew exactly what was inside those shoes. The realization hit her like a physical blow: Marcus had sent her.
"He paid you, didn't he?"Clara whispered, her voice barely audible over the wind.

Brenda snatched the shoe, slicing the sole open with her shank. She pulled out the tiny, protective plastic capsule containing the microchip. A victorious grin spread across her face.
"Marcus is going to be very pleased,"Brenda laughed, turning to walk away.
But Clara didn't panic. Instead, she stood up, balancing on one foot, and spoke in a clear, cold voice.
"You should have checked the serial number on that chip, Brenda."
Brenda stopped dead in her tracks, her smile fading as she slowly turned back around to face Clara.
