Previously: When Clara's stepchildren showed up at her estate with eviction papers, they expected a frail widow. Instead, Clara stepped out of the pool and prepared to reveal a secret.

The Trap is Sprung

Julian smirked, crossing his arms as he looked around the magnificent backyard. "We’ve filed the petition, Clara. The court has granted us temporary control of the estate pending the execution of the original family trust. Since you have no biological children with our father, the property reverts to us. You have forty-eight hours to pack your things and vacate the premises."

Mr. Sterling cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses. "My clients are legally within their rights, Mrs. Vance. We have medical affidavits suggesting that your cognitive state is declining, making you unfit to manage an estate of this magnitude. It would be in your best interest to sign these voluntary relocation papers to an assisted living facility. We can avoid a public spectacle."

The sheer cruelty of their plan was staggering. They weren't just trying to take her home; they were trying to strip her of her dignity and sanity. But Clara merely looked at the papers, a slow, calm anger burning within her. Arthur had warned her this day would come. He knew his children's greed knew no bounds.

"You think you've thought of everything, don't you?" Clara said, her voice quiet but piercing. "You spent six months digging through Arthur's archives, looking for any loophole to discard me."

"We didn't have to look hard," Beatrice sneered. "Father left this house to his bloodline. You were just a temporary companion."

"Is that what you think?" Clara replied. She picked up her phone from the table and pressed a single speed-dial button. "Mark, you can bring the files in now."

Julian’s smirk vanished. "Mark? What does he have to do with this?"

Before he could answer, the side gate clicked open. Mark Vance, Arthur’s estranged son from his second marriage—whom Julian and Beatrice had spent years trying to cut out of the family—walked onto the patio. He wasn't alone. Beside him was a uniformed police officer and a prominent federal estate attorney. Mark was carrying a heavy, fireproof metal lockbox, and his expression was grimly triumphant.
