My Mother-in-Law Tried to Stop Our Wheelchair Wedding but My Groom Had a Secret
Previously: When Heather and Kyle, both in wheelchairs, prepared to say 'I do,' Kyle's mother stormed the altar with a shocking accusation that threatened to tear their beautiful day apart.
The Shadow at the Altar
The beautiful serenity of the chapel was abruptly shattered just as the priest cleared his throat to begin the official vows. The heavy oak doors at the back of the church slammed open with a deafening bang, reverberating off the high, vaulted ceilings. Guests gasped and turned in their seats to find Eleanor, Kyle’s mother, standing in the doorway. Her face was flushed with anger, her eyes scanning the room until they locked onto the altar.
With determined, furious strides, Eleanor marched down the aisle, her heels clicking sharply against the stone floor. In her hand, she clutched a thick manila envelope. Kyle’s face paled, and he tried to steer his chair forward to intercept her, but Eleanor was relentless. She marched straight up to the altar, ignoring the gasps of the wedding party.

"Stop this farce immediately!" Eleanor shrieked, throwing the manila envelope at Heather’s feet. Medical documents and progress reports spilled across the polished wood. "This wedding is a lie, and so is my son!"
The chapel erupted into shocked whispers. Eleanor pointed a manicured finger at Kyle, her voice dripping with venom. "I hired an investigator. Kyle’s doctors cleared him months ago! He can walk, Heather. He’s been faking his paralysis to play the martyr, to stay with you, and to guilt me into keeping his trust fund intact!"
Heather felt the blood drain from her face. She looked down at the medical papers, then up at Kyle. He was looking at the floor, his jaw clenched, refusing to meet her eyes. The silence in the church was suffocating. Was the love of her life a fraud? Had he lied to her about the very bond that connected them?
Then, slowly, Kyle placed his hands on the armrests of his wheelchair. With a deep, ragged breath, he pushed himself upward. The congregation gasped as he stood fully upright, standing tall in his grey suit. But he didn't look at his triumphant mother. He looked only at Heather, tears streaming down his face.
