Thomas stared at the envelope in Marcus’s hand. He recognized the neat, hurried handwriting immediately. It was his son’s. The terminal around them seemed to fade away as Marcus handed the precious letter to the weeping father.

"I was Ryan's commanding officer," Marcus explained softly. "During his final deployment, he gave me this letter. He told me that if he didn't make it back, I had to deliver it to you personally. It took me years to track you down after you moved away and took this job. I finally found your station duty roster yesterday."

With trembling hands, Thomas broke the seal and began to read. Ryan’s words filled the page, expressing his deep love for his father, but also pleading with him to let go of his anger. "Dad, if you're reading this, don't let my death harden your heart," the letter read. "Live your life with kindness. That is the best way to honor my memory."

A sob tore from Thomas’s chest. He collapsed into Marcus’s arms, the heavy burden of his five-year grief finally breaking open. Marcus held the man tightly, offering the silent comfort of a brother-in-arms who understood the pain of loss. The onlookers, who had previously been recording a confrontation, now watched in respectful silence, some wiping away tears of their own.

When Thomas finally pulled away, his eyes were clear for the first time in years. The bitter rage that had consumed him was replaced by a fragile, beautiful peace. He looked at Marcus with profound gratitude, realizing that the man he had attacked was actually the guardian of his son's final wish.

Marcus smiled warmly, placing a hand on Thomas's shoulder. "Your son was a hero, Thomas. And he wanted his father to be happy again."
