Previously: When a stern security guard publicly accused a quiet Navy officer of wearing a fake uniform, a sudden announcement over the transit station's speakers turned the tables completely.

The silence in the terminal was deafening. Thomas slowly let go of Marcus's wrist, the handcuffs dangling uselessly from his trembling fingers. Within moments, the heavy clicking of boots echoed on the concrete floor. Two armed Navy Military Police officers, flanked by the transit station’s head supervisor, pushed through the parting crowd. The MPs immediately bypassed Thomas, stood at attention, and delivered a crisp, synchronized salute to Marcus.

"Lieutenant Hayes, your official escort to the naval base is ready, sir," the lead MP announced, his voice carrying across the quiet terminal.

The transit supervisor, a stern-faced man named Mr. Vance, turned his full, furious attention to Thomas. His face was flushed with embarrassment and anger.

The Grudge Revealed

"What on earth do you think you are doing, Thomas?" Vance demanded, his voice dangerously low. "Have you lost your mind?"

Thomas stammered, his previous bravado completely gone. He looked around at the crowd of onlookers, many of whom were now muttering in disapproval of his aggressive behavior.

"I... I thought his uniform was fake, sir," Thomas lied, his voice shaking. "He looked too young for his rank, and I was just trying to protect the integrity of—"
"Don't lie to me, Thomas," Vance interrupted coldly. "I know exactly why you targeted Lieutenant Hayes. I saw the duty roster, and I know you checked the arriving passenger manifest this morning."

Marcus frowned, looking between the two men. He did not recognize Thomas, but the guard's intense hatred felt deeply personal. Vance turned to Marcus, his expression softening into one of profound apology.

Vance explained that Thomas was the father of Bradley Miller, a young seaman who had been court-martialed and dishonorably discharged two years prior. Marcus’s mind flashed back to the case. Bradley had been caught stealing critical medical supplies from the base, putting lives at risk. Marcus had simply done his duty by reporting the theft and initiating the legal proceedings. He had no personal malice toward the boy, but the law was the law.

Thomas had harbored a bitter, festering resentment ever since, blaming Marcus for ruining his son's life. Today, seeing Marcus's name on the manifest, Thomas had staged a public humiliation under the guise of security protocol.

"This is a gross abuse of authority," Vance declared. "You are fired, Thomas. Effective immediately. And we will be pressing criminal charges for assault and harassment."

Thomas sank to his knees on the cold concrete, his face buried in his hands as tears of desperation began to fall.
