Marcus looked at Thomas, seeing past the guard’s uniform to the deeply insecure man underneath. If I ever hear of you abusing your authority again, I will personally ensure you never work in security again. Do we understand each other?"

Thomas nodded vigorously, whispering a heartfelt apology. Commander Vance smiled faintly, nodding in approval of the Lieutenant’s mercy. The military escort then led Marcus through the terminal, the crowd erupting into spontaneous applause as they cleared a path for him.

Later that evening, Marcus finally arrived home. As his daughter ran into his arms and his wife embraced him, the stress of the terminal melted away. He realized that true honor didn't need to be defended with anger or validated by strangers. It was lived every day through integrity, discipline, and the capacity to show mercy even to those who least deserved it.
