Previously: When Levi pushed his wife Emilia off a freezing gothic balcony to claim her family fortune, he thought he had committed the perfect crime. He didn't realize someone was watching from below.

Reckoning and Redemption

Before Levi could reach the door, Jude pushed it wide open, stepping into the study with Emilia at his side. Levi gasped, dropping his whiskey glass, which shattered against the hearth. Scarlett jumped up from the desk, her face turning pale as a ghost as she stared at the shivering, snow-covered woman she thought she had killed.

"You... you're alive,"
Levi stammered, backing away toward the window.
"It was an accident! Emilia, I swear, I lost my temper, I didn't mean to—"

"Save your breath, Levi,"
Emilia said, her voice steady and cold as ice.
"It's over."

Scarlett immediately raised her hands, stepping away from the desk.

"Levi did it! He planned the whole thing, Emilia! He said he would kill me too if I didn't help him!"
she cried, her loyalty evaporating in an instant.

Jude stepped forward, holding up his phone.

"I've been recording everything since we were on the lawn, Scarlett. And the local sheriff is already at the gates. I called them the moment I saw Levi drag Emilia to the balcony."

As if on cue, the distant wail of police sirens echoed through the valley. Levi collapsed into a chair, realizing his greed had cost him his freedom. Scarlett burst into tears, realizing her betrayal had led her straight to a prison cell. Within minutes, the authorities arrived, leading both of them away in handcuffs into the freezing winter night.

Emilia stood by the fireplace, wrapped in a warm blanket that Jude had brought her. She looked out at the snowy balcony, no longer feeling afraid. She had lost her husband and her best friend, but she had saved her family's legacy and discovered a true ally in Jude. In the coldest winters of our lives, we often discover who is truly willing to stand by us in the storm.
