Previously: When Private Sarah Miller was framed by her corrupt commanding officer, she faced public humiliation. But her tormentor had no idea who her father really was.

A Father's Fury

The dust had barely settled when heavily armed tactical military police poured out of the vehicles, immediately raising their weapons and surrounding Captain Marcus and his loyalists. The back door of the lead SUV opened, and out stepped General William Vance, the four-star commander of the entire division. His uniform was immaculate, but his face was a mask of pure, terrifying rage.

Marcus’s smug expression vanished, replaced by a sickly pale complexion. He snapped into a trembling salute, sweat pouring down his temples.

"General Vance, sir!" Marcus stammered, his voice cracking. "We... we are carrying out standard disciplinary action. Private Miller was caught stealing base supplies. We were just enforcing order."

General Vance ignored the salute entirely. He walked past Marcus as if the captain were invisible, his heavy boots crunching purposefully on the gravel. He stopped directly in front of Sarah, looking down at her bruised face. For a brief second, the hardened general’s eyes softened with deep pain and concern, but they quickly hardened back into steel as he turned to face Marcus.

"Her name is not Private Miller," the General said, his voice low and vibrating with menace. "Her name is Sarah Vance. She is my daughter, and she is an undercover investigator sent directly by the Inspector General's office."

A collective gasp rippled through the gathered soldiers. Marcus looked as if he had been struck by lightning. He tried to speak, but only a pathetic, choking sound came out of his throat.

"You thought you could hide your black-market operations in this remote corner of the world, Marcus," General Vance continued, stepping closer until he was inches from the trembling captain. "But my daughter volunteered to find the rot. And she found it."
