A Father's Betrayal
The ceremony was beautiful, but the tension between the newly minted Admiral and the bitter Commander hung heavily in the air. Once the vows were exchanged and the guests began moving toward the reception hall, James intercepted Diana. He grabbed her elbow, guiding her into the quiet, shadow-drenched vestry at the back of the cathedral. Slamming the heavy oak door behind them, he finally let his composure slip.
"You think you're untouchable now, don't you?" James hissed, his face flushing red with anger. "You came here today specifically to humiliate me. To show everyone that you outrank your own father."
Diana pulled her arm away, her voice remaining cool and steady. She refused to let him see the pain his words still caused her deep inside.

"I came here to support my sister, James. My rank is a result of my service, not a weapon to use against you. If you feel humiliated, that is your own insecurity speaking."
James let out a harsh, mocking laugh. He stepped closer, attempting to use his height to intimidate her, just as he had done when she was a helpless child. But Diana stood her ground, her posture rigid and unyielding.
"You think you earned those stars? I know all about your fast-track promotion," James sneered, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I still have friends in high places, Diana. I know about the classified operation in the Pacific three years ago. I know about the decisions you made."
A chill ran down Diana’s spine. The mission he was referring to was highly classified, a sensitive crisis where she had been forced to make a devastating tactical choice to save her crew. It was a burden she carried every single day.
"That file is sealed by the Department of Defense," Diana said, her voice tightening. "How did you get access to it?"
"It doesn't matter how I got it," James replied with a cruel smile. "What matters is that I have it. And if you don't resign your commission by Monday, I will leak it to the press. They will paint you as a coward. Your career will be over."
