Previously: When Sarah's husband tried to evict her from her family's historic estate, an unexpected knock at the door revealed a truth that changed everything they knew about their marriage.

An Unexpected Ally

The sudden sound of the doorbell shattered the tense silence. Julian frowned, his brow furrowing in irritation as he checked his luxury wristwatch. He wasn't expecting his legal team for another hour. Grimacing, he pulled open the heavy wooden door, ready to bark at whoever was disrupting his triumph. But as the door swung wide, the words died in his throat. Standing on the grand stone porch was Eleanor, Julian’s estranged mother. She wore an elegant wool coat and held a thick leather portfolio under her arm. Her eyes, sharp and calculating, locked onto her son.

"Mother?" Julian stammered, his confident facade slipping for a brief second. "What on earth are you doing here? We haven't spoken in five years."

"I came to prevent you from making the biggest mistake of your miserable life, Julian," Eleanor said, her voice dripping with quiet authority. She stepped past him into the foyer without waiting for an invitation, her heels clicking softly on the marble. She walked straight to Sarah and offered a reassuring nod. "You aren't going anywhere, Sarah. This house is yours."

Julian quickly recovered his composure, slamming the door shut. "Have you lost your mind? Sarah signed the transfer deeds. I have the legal title right here!" He gestured wildly at the papers in his hand. But Eleanor calmly opened her leather portfolio, pulling out a certified document bearing a golden seal.

"You forgot that your grandfather was a brilliant businessman, Julian," Eleanor said calmly. "He knew exactly what kind of greedy, deceitful man you were. The estate's trust specifically states that no transfer of ownership is valid without the co-signature of the designated trustee. And that trustee is me."

Sarah gasped as Julian's face turned ash-gray. The morning light now illuminated the raw panic in her husband's eyes as Eleanor revealed his massive, secret gambling debts and his desperate plan to sell the estate to pay off dangerous creditors.
