Previously: After a suspicious car crash left me hospitalized, my husband stormed into my room with a terrifying demand. I thought I was completely alone, but someone was watching from the shadows.

The Price of Silence

Mark reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a folded document, throwing it onto the floor beside her. He knelt down, his face inches from hers, his breath smelling of expensive whiskey and mints. He wanted her signature on a full confession stating she had fabricated the embezzlement accusations against him due to a mental breakdown. If she signed, she would lose her inheritance, her freedom, and her dignity.

"Sign it, Sarah. Sign it, or I promise you that the doctors will find a lethal air bubble in your IV line by morning," Mark whispered, his voice cold and calculated. "Nobody will ever suspect a thing."

Sarah stared at the paper, tears streaming down her face. She knew that signing meant her ruin, but refusing meant her death. Just as Mark grabbed her by her hospital gown to drag her back onto the bed, the door handle rattled. Mark froze, his eyes widening in panic. He quickly let go of her and stood up, trying to smooth out his navy suit, but it was too late. The door swung open.

Standing in the doorway was Dr. Julian Vance, the chief of medicine, accompanied by two burly security guards. But it wasn't just a routine check-up. Behind them stood Detective Miller from the precinct. Mark immediately tried to play the role of the concerned, grieving husband, stepping back and putting his hands up in mock surprise.

"Officer, thank God you're here. My wife is hysterical, she fell out of bed and I was just trying to help her up," Mark lied smoothly, his voice returning to its charming, persuasive tone.

But Detective Miller didn't look convinced. He stepped into the room, his eyes scanning the crumpled paper on the floor, the red mark on Sarah's cheek, and the sheer terror in her eyes. The trap was set, but Mark still held a powerful card—the hospital's security feed had been mysteriously disabled just minutes before he entered.
