My Husband Tried to Take My Twelve-Million-Dollar Company, But One Envelope Ruined Him
Previously: When my smug ex-husband stood in court demanding half of my twelve-million-dollar empire, he thought he had won. But a single manila envelope changed everything.
The Unraveling of a Lie
John’s lawyer snatched the documents from the clerk, his confident expression instantly dissolving into a frown as his eyes scanned the first page. John leaned over, his heart hammering against his ribs. The paper in his lawyer's hands was a detailed forensic audit of their company’s accounts, compiled by one of the top financial investigators in the country. It meticulously traced a series of unauthorized wire transfers over the past three years—totaling over four million dollars—straight into a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands under John’s name.
But that was only the beginning. As the lawyer frantically flipped through the pages, he reached the section containing high-resolution photographs and bank statements detailing John’s secret life. John had been using corporate funds to pay the mortgage on a luxury penthouse in Miami for his mistress, who also happened to be the company's former marketing director. Every expensive dinner, every first-class flight, and every piece of jewelry had been billed directly to Sarah’s business as "networking expenses."

The final blow, however, was the document at the very bottom of the stack. It was a certified affidavit from the notary public who had supposedly witnessed the signing of their post-nuptial agreement. The notary confessed under oath that John had paid him twenty thousand dollars to falsify the signature pages, swapping the original protective agreement for one that granted John half of Sarah’s assets and her father’s trust.
"This... this is a fabrication!"
John stammered, his face turning an ashen gray as he stood up, ignoring his lawyer’s frantic attempts to pull him back down. His voice cracked with panic, the smug facade completely shattered. He looked at Sarah, but she only met his desperate gaze with a look of cold, unwavering calm. He had underestimated her, thinking her grief over her father's passing had made her blind. In reality, it had made her vigilant.
