I Saved a Drowning Wolf—Then His Pack Trailed Me to My Remote Cabin
Previously: When Jack pulled a freezing wolf from a cracked ice sheet, he thought he was just saving a single life. He had no idea the pack was watching.
The Ghostly Guardians
Jack braced himself for a brutal attack, closing his eyes as the massive predators closed the distance. But instead of baring their fangs in anger, the pack stopped. A giant, silver-furred alpha wolf stepped forward with slow, deliberate majesty. The alpha gently nudged the wet, shivering young wolf Jack had rescued, checking its condition. Then, the alpha raised his head and locked his intelligent, golden eyes directly onto Jack. It was a silent moment of profound understanding—an undeniable expression of gratitude between man and beast. With a soft whine, the pack turned and vanished back into the white mist, leaving Jack alone on the ice, shivering but alive.
Two days later, a historic blizzard slammed into the valley. The wind howled like a banshee, and the temperature plummeted to a lethal thirty degrees below zero. Deep in the night, the roar of Jack’s old generator suddenly sputtered and died, plunging the cabin into absolute darkness and cutting off the heat. Jack knew that without power, the wooden cabin would become a freezing tomb within hours. Shivering violently, he pulled on his heavy navy coat and stepped out into the blinding, swirling whiteout to fix the machine.

But disaster struck in an instant. As Jack stepped off the porch, the wooden stairs, weakened by the deep frost, cracked and gave way. He fell hard to the frozen ground, his left leg twisting beneath me with a sickening pop. A wave of blinding pain washed over him, making him gasp for air. He tried to scream for help, but the roaring wind swallowed his voice. Trapped in the deep snow, unable to stand, and with his hands freezing instantly, Jack felt a dangerous, warm numbness creeping over his body. He was freezing to death. Suddenly, through the blinding snow, several large, dark shapes materialized. The wolf pack had returned, and the alpha was heading straight for him, baring his teeth.
