The tender reunion was violently shattered by a harsh, familiar voice echoing across the terminal. Sarah’s blood ran cold as she recognized the sharp tone of Evelyn Vance.

"There she is! Stop that woman immediately!" Evelyn shrieked, pointing an accusatory finger.

Sarah scrambled to her feet, her heart pounding in her chest. Marching toward her were Richard and Evelyn Vance, accompanied by their high-priced family attorney, Marcus Sterling. The attorney held a thick leather folder, his face set in a grim, professional mask. The surrounding travelers stopped in their tracks, murmuring as the scene unfolded.

Richard stepped forward, his eyes cold and demanding. He looked down at Sarah with utter contempt.

"You honestly thought you could run away with our son's legacy, Sarah?" Richard sneered. "We won't let a penniless outsider raise a Vance heir."

Sterling, the attorney, stepped in front of Officer Miller, thrusting a document forward.

"Officer, we have an emergency custody injunction signed by a judge," the attorney lied smoothly. "This woman is mentally unstable, grieving, and attempting to flee the state with a minor. We are taking custody of the unborn child, and she must be detained."

Sarah backed away, shaking her head in terror. She knew the document was likely a scare tactic, but she lacked the resources to fight their high-powered legal team. She was completely alone, cornered at the gate.

But she wasn't entirely alone. Sensing Sarah's distress, Rex’s ears went flat against his head. He stepped directly in front of her, baring his teeth. A deep, thunderous growl vibrated from the K9's chest, stopping the in-laws in their tracks.

Officer Miller immediately stepped forward, placing his hand firmly on his holster.

"Step back right now," Miller commanded. "Do not approach this passenger."

Richard scoffed, red-faced with anger. "Do you know who I am? I will have your badge by tonight!"
