A Lonely Woodsman Rescued a Drowning Wolf—Hours Later, the Entire Pack Arrived
Previously: When Caleb dragged a freezing wolf from the icy depths of a mountain lake, he expected a bite. Instead, he forged an unbelievable bond that would soon save his own life.
The pack didn't attack. The wolf Caleb had saved slowly rose, gave Caleb a long, knowing look, and trotted back to his family. Together, they vanished into the gray fog, leaving Caleb alone on the ice. Shivering violently and close to hypothermia, Caleb dragged himself back to his cabin. He built a roaring fire, wrapped himself in heavy wool blankets, and tried to process the surreal encounter. But the peace of the wilderness was short-lived.
By midnight, a howling blizzard raged outside, but a different kind of storm arrived at Caleb's door. The loud roar of snowmobiles shattered the night. Before Caleb could grab his coat, his cabin door was kicked open. Standing there was his estranged brother, Silas, flanked by three local poachers carrying high-powered rifles.

Unwelcome Guests
Silas had always been driven by greed, the very trait that had fractured their family years ago. He sneered at Caleb, shaking the snow off his heavy gear. "We tracked a pack of wolves near the lake," Silas said, his voice dripping with malice. "The state is offering a massive bounty on them, and they're on your land, Caleb. You're going to help us find them."
"Get out of my house, Silas. There's nothing for you here," Caleb replied, stepping between his brother and the door.
Silas chuckled, raising his rifle. "Don't play hero, little brother. You help us get those pelts, or I will make sure the bank forecloses on this pathetic cabin by tomorrow morning." Before Caleb could respond, a low, menacing growl rattled the cabin windows. Outside, in the swirling snow, dozens of glowing yellow eyes materialized. The pack had returned, surrounding the cabin. Silas smiled grimly, chambering a round and aiming directly out the window at the lead wolf—the very one Caleb had saved.
