Previously: When a wealthy family accuses their loyal maid of stealing a priceless necklace, a grainy security tape seems to seal her fate—until a tiny detail reveals a shocking setup.

A Shocking Discovery

Cast out into the bitter evening rain with nothing but a single suitcase and her crying daughter, Emily felt utterly defeated. They had threatened her with jail, only sparing her because Henry had quietly pleaded with Eleanor not to traumatize young Mia further. Sitting in a cramped, drafty motel room, Emily stared at her phone. Before she had been dragged out of the mansion, she had managed to take a quick photo of the security footage paused on Henry's tablet.

She zoomed in on the grainy image of the hand reaching into the jewelry box. The sleeve of the maid's uniform was slightly pulled back, exposing a bare wrist. Emily gasped. On that wrist was a very distinct, crescent-shaped scar. Emily looked down at her own smooth, unblemished wrists. She did not have that scar. But she knew exactly who did.

It belonged to Thomas Sterling.

He had gotten that scar years ago during a drunken boating accident, a story he often boasted about at family dinners. Emily realized with sickening clarity that she had been framed. Thomas must have put on a duplicate maid's uniform to steal his own mother's heirloom. But why would a wealthy heir steal from his own family?

The next morning, Emily returned to the mansion, her fear replaced by a fierce determination. She knocked loudly on the heavy oak doors. When Thomas opened it, his face darkened with immediate fury.

"I told you to never show your face here again,"
he hissed, trying to shut the door. Emily wedged her foot in the frame.
"I know what you did, Thomas,"
she said, pushing past him into the grand foyer where Eleanor was sitting.
"And I have the proof."
