The Maid Was Framed for Stealing Jewels, But the Butler Knew the Truth
Previously: When Rachel is accused of stealing a priceless necklace from her wealthy employers, she and her daughter are thrown into the street—until a silent witness decides to speak up.
A Hidden Truth in the Shadows
Cast out into the freezing rain with nothing but a single suitcase and her shivering daughter, Rachel found shelter under a bus stop. She wrapped her threadbare coat around Ella, whispering promises she wasn't sure she could keep. She knew she was innocent, but the security footage was damning. Someone had framed her, and whoever did it had access to both the master safe and the security office. Only three people fit that description: Patricia, Matthew, and Walter.
The next morning, leaving Ella safely with a trusted neighbor, Rachel returned to the Sterling estate. She hid in the thick shrubbery near the side gates, hoping to catch Walter alone. Instead, she witnessed something that made her heart stop. Matthew stepped out of the side door, glancing around nervously. He met a man in a dark leather jacket by the gate and handed him a small velvet pouch—the exact pouch that held Patricia's emeralds. Rachel watched as the man handed Matthew a thick stack of cash.

Before she could react, a heavy hand gripped her shoulder. She gasped, turning to find Walter staring down at her. Instead of calling for the guards, the butler whispered,
"Come with me, quickly,"and led her into the basement.
Safe inside his office, Rachel confronted him. "Matthew took the necklace! I saw him! Why did you let them blame me, Walter?"
Walter slumped into his chair, looking incredibly old.
"I had no choice, Rachel,"he confessed, his voice cracking.
"Matthew has massive gambling debts. He threatened to cancel my pension and throw my sick wife out of her nursing home if I didn't edit the security footage to frame you. He used an old clip of you cleaning the study and overlaid it."
Rachel was horrified. "But my daughter and I have nothing now! You have to help me prove the truth!"
Walter pulled a black flash drive from his pocket.
"The original footage is here. It shows Matthew opening the safe. But if I give this to Patricia, Matthew will destroy my life."Suddenly, heavy footsteps echoed from the stairs. Matthew's voice boomed from the hallway, demanding to see Walter. The doorknob began to turn.
