The Founder's Secret

The entire showroom fell into a stunned silence. Sarah froze, her mouth slightly open as she stared from the faded photograph to the majestic portrait of Charles Sterling hanging on the wall. For a brief second, panic flickered in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a cold, defensive arrogance.

"This is absurd!" Sarah barked, her voice echoing off the high ceilings. "Charles Sterling's widow passed away years ago in a private care facility. This is a cheap scam. You’re trying to extort us!"

Clara shook her head slowly, a deep, sorrowful sigh escaping her lips.

"They told the public I passed away because they wanted to hide me," Clara whispered, her voice trembling with decades of unshed tears. "After Charles died, his greedy nephew, Arthur, and the board of directors forged medical documents. They declared me mentally unfit, stripped me of my shares, and locked me away in an isolated nursing home. They wanted the empire for themselves."

Liam listened in horror. He knew the history of the company, and how Arthur had suddenly taken the reins after the founder’s mysterious passing. It all started to make terrifying sense.

Before Sarah could scream another insult, the boutique doors opened. A group of wealthy investors entered, led by none other than Arthur Sterling himself, the current CEO. Sarah immediately saw her chance to gain favor.

"Arthur! Thank goodness you’re here!" Sarah cried out, rushing to his side. "This crazy woman in the wheelchair is claiming to be your late aunt! She's trying to run a scam, and Liam is actually helping her!"

Arthur turned his gaze toward the counter. When his eyes locked onto Clara, the color drained completely from his face. The folder of legal documents he was holding slipped from his fingers, scattering papers across the pristine marble floor. He looked as if he had just seen a ghost.

"Clara..." Arthur stammered, his voice cracking. "How... how did you get out?"
