Previously: When six-year-old Leo spotted his identical twin in a crowded airport baggage claim, his mother Sarah froze. The rusted metal tag around the stranger's neck held a truth she never expected.

A Confrontation in the Terminal

Before Sarah could process the heavy metal tag, a rough hand suddenly grabbed the boy’s shoulder, wrenching him backward. Sarah gasped, looking up to see a tall, gaunt man in a soiled heavy coat. His eyes were wild and defensive, darting around the crowded airport as if he were being hunted. He glared at Sarah with pure hostility.

"Get away from my kid," the man growled, his voice low and threatening. "We don't want any trouble."

Sarah stood up, her maternal instincts overriding her terror. She looked at the man's face, and a memory, long buried under grief, flashed in her mind. Six years ago, when she gave birth at the small county clinic, this man had been there. He was Marcus, the night orderly who had delivered the news that her second twin hadn't survived the night.

"Marcus?" Sarah breathed, her voice shaking. "You... you were at the hospital. You told me my baby died!"

Marcus’s face went completely pale. He took a step back, dragging the dirty boy, Rowan, with him. He hadn't expected to be recognized, let alone run into the mother he had robbed six years ago. He had taken the child to raise as his own, living off the grid, but his life of neglect had left the boy looking frail and dirty.

"You're crazy, lady. I don't know you," Marcus snarled, pulling a pocketknife from his coat. "Back off, or I'll make sure you never see either of them again."

The crowd around them began to notice the commotion, whispering and stepping back. Leo clung to Sarah’s grey cardigan, crying silently. Rowan looked up at Sarah with big, hopeful eyes that begged for rescue. Sarah knew she couldn't let Marcus walk out of the airport. If he escaped into the city, Rowan would disappear forever. She had to act, but the knife in Marcus's hand was a deadly threat to everyone around them.
