With a racing heart, Jessica gently coaxed the plush toy from Emily's tight grip. The little girl let go with a soft whimper, burying her face in her hands. Jessica turned the elephant over, her fingers finding the small zipper hidden beneath its fabric tail. When she pulled it open, she didn't find extra stuffing. Instead, she pulled out a tightly folded slip of paper. Under the dome light, she recognized David's frantic handwriting.
