Previously: When Amber confronted her commander on a desaturated military airfield, she thought he was a traitor. But his final desperate plea revealed a far more terrifying truth.

A Deadly Betrayal

Before Amber could demand answers, three figures emerged from the dense fog rolling across the tarmac. They wore unmarked black tactical gear, their faces concealed by ballistic masks, and they carried suppressed carbines. Leading them was Lieutenant Miller, George’s trusted executive officer. The cold realization hit Amber like a physical blow: George wasn't the traitor. He had been compromised, forced to watch as his own rogue squad seized control of the airfield to steal the classified cargo loaded onto the F-16.

"Drop the weapon, Amber," Miller said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. "You're a good soldier, but you're standing in the way of a very lucrative retirement package."

Amber kept her handgun raised, shifting her target from George to Miller. But she knew the math was against her. One handgun against three automatic rifles on an open tarmac left her with zero chance of survival.

"Miller, she has nothing to do with this," George pleaded, his voice cracking as he tried to stand. "Let her go. I gave you the access codes. Leave her out of it."

Miller chuckled, a dry, metallic sound through his mask.

"No witnesses, Commander. That was always the deal."

In a desperate bid to save Amber's life, George threw himself forward, tackling Miller’s legs.

"Run, Amber!" George roared.

A deafening burst of gunfire shattered the silence of the airfield. George collapsed to the concrete, coughing blood as Miller kicked him aside. Amber dove behind a stack of heavy metal transport crates, bullets sparking off the steel frame just inches from her head. She was pinned down, outgunned, and her mentor was dying only yards away. The F-16’s engines began to whine, starting their loud, terrifying spool-up sequence.
