Previously: When Victoria tried to humiliate her cousin's quiet husband at her lavish wedding, she had no idea his simple white shirt hid a secret that would instantly ruin her entire life.

The Mask Slips

The silence that fell over the garden was heavy and suffocating. The high-society guests stared in disbelief as Charles, the supposed "richest man in the city," remained bent at the waist before my unassuming husband. Victoria’s face twisted from shock to absolute fury.

"Charles, what are you doing?"
she hissed, grabbing his shoulder to force him upright.
"Get up! Why are you bowing to Sarah's broke husband? Have you lost your mind?"

Charles yanked his arm away, his forehead dripping with sweat.

"Shut up, Victoria!"
he whispered fiercely.
"This is Arthur Vance. He is the CEO and majority shareholder of the Vance Conglomerate. He owns the firm I work for. He practically owns this entire city!"

Victoria stumbled backward, her eyes darting between Charles's terrified face and Arthur’s calm, stoic expression. The realization hit her like a physical blow. The simple man she had ridiculed for months was the very billionaire her husband desperately tried to please.

Arthur finally stepped forward, his voice cool and commanding.

"I must admit, Charles, this is quite a lavish celebration,"
Arthur said, looking around the garden.
"Though I was surprised to see a five-hundred-thousand-dollar charge on our corporate emergency acquisition fund this morning. Care to explain why company money was used to pay for your wedding?"

Charles collapsed to his knees, his hands trembling.

"Mr. Vance, please! I was going to return it. I just needed to impress Victoria’s family. Please don't ruin me!"

Desperate to save herself, Victoria pointed a shaking finger at me.

"Even if he has money, he chose Sarah!"
she screamed, her voice cracking.
"She is nothing but a charity case! Why would a billionaire marry her?"

Arthur looked at Victoria with cold disgust.

"I married Sarah because she is the rightful owner of the Vance legacy,"
Arthur revealed.
"And it is time she learned the truth about what your family stole."
