The dining room fell into a stunned, breathless silence. Dust and splinters of maple wood drifted through the air, settling over the expensive dinner plates. Martha lay groaning on the floor, surrounded by plaster and broken wood. But the guests weren't looking at her. Their eyes were fixed on the dark recess inside the wall, where a heavy, dust-covered steel lockbox had tumbled out of the shattered panel and landed on the floor. The impact had broken its rusted latch, and a cascade of legal documents and old photographs had spilled onto the rug.

Lily stared at the papers, her heart hammering against her ribs. She recognized her father’s elegant handwriting instantly. Martha, realizing what had happened, scrambled frantically on her hands and knees, trying to gather the documents. "Don't touch those! Get out of my house!" she shrieked, her voice high and panicked. But Richard, a prominent local attorney and a long-time family friend who was attending the dinner, stepped forward. Before Martha could reach them, Richard picked up the thick parchment paper bearing the official seal.

As Richard read the document, his face turned pale. "Martha, what is this?" he asked, his voice shaking. "This is Arthur's original, unaltered will. It’s dated just days before his passing." He looked at Lily, his eyes widening in recognition as he saw her face clearly without the maid's cap. "It says here that Arthur left the entirety of his estate, this house, and all his assets solely to his daughter, Lily. Martha was only granted a small monthly allowance, contingent on her treating Lily well."

A collective gasp rippled through the room. Martha's eyes darted around like a trapped animal. Realizing her web of lies was collapsing, she grabbed a heavy brass candelabra from the sideboard and lunged toward Richard, desperate to destroy the evidence.
