Previously: When Rachel's wealthy ex-husband tracked her down to her grocery store job to humiliate her, he thought she was defenseless. But he didn't know who her protective boss really was.

David stopped in his tracks, startled by the sudden confrontation. He looked at Chris, taking in the older man’s worn baseball cap and simple grey tee, and let out a mocking laugh. To a man like David, status was everything, and he saw nothing but a low-wage worker standing in his way.

The Power Play

"Get out of my way, old man," David barked, waving his hand dismissively. "This is private family business. Go back to sweeping floors before I have the owner of this establishment fire you on the spot."

Chris didn't flinch. Instead, he took a step forward, shielding Rachel behind his broad shoulders. Rachel’s heart hammered in her chest as she watched the two men. She knew how ruthless David could be; he had the money and the power to destroy anyone who crossed him. David pulled out his phone, threatening to call his high-priced attorneys to have Chris arrested for interference.

"You think you're powerful because you wear a fancy suit and bully women?" Chris said, his voice incredibly calm but carrying a dangerous edge. "You have no idea who you're dealing with."

With a steady hand, Chris reached into his pocket and pulled out a rugged smartphone. He dialed a number and placed the call on speaker. Within two rings, a deep, authoritative voice answered. Rachel recognized the name immediately—it was Harold Vance, the billionaire CEO of Vance Enterprises, the massive conglomerate that funded David’s entire firm.

"Christian?" the voice on the phone said, sounding surprised but deeply respectful. "Is that you? It’s been months since you called."

David’s arrogant smile instantly vanished, his face turning a ghostly shade of white as he recognized his ultimate boss's voice. Chris looked David dead in the eye and spoke into the phone. "Harold, I have one of your junior executives, David, standing in front of my store, harassing my staff and threatening a mother. I think it's time we review his contract."
