Previously: Claire lived in a golden cage, enduring her husband Thomas’s cruelty behind closed doors. But when a hidden panic button summons an elite security force, the power dynamic changes forever.

The Tables Turn

The air in the grand dining room grew thick with tension. Thomas turned slowly, his eyes darting between the four towering security guards and his wife. He expected Claire to cower, to beg for forgiveness as she usually did. Instead, she stood tall, her chin raised, the white silk of her robe catching the dim chandelier light. The bruises on her wrists were visible, but her eyes held a fire Thomas had never seen before.

"Claire, what is the meaning of this farce?" Thomas demanded, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "Tell these men to leave. You are making a fool of yourself."

The lead security officer, a stern man named Arthur, stepped forward, completely ignoring Thomas. He bowed his head respectfully toward Claire. "The perimeter is secure, Ma'am. The distress signal was received, and we are ready to execute the protocol."

Thomas let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "Protocol? I am Thomas Sterling. I pay your agency's retainer. I demand you remove this woman from my property immediately! She is mentally unstable!"

Arthur didn't flinch. He pulled a digital tablet from his jacket and tapped the screen. "Actually, Mr. Sterling, the residential contract for this villa was terminated ten minutes ago. A new emergency directive has been initiated by the majority shareholder of our parent corporation."

Thomas’s face went pale. He had spent years investing in private security, knowing his reputation depended on keeping his private life locked away. He knew Vanguard Security was owned by a massive, anonymous holding company—one he had desperately tried to buy into for years to secure his own empire.

"That's impossible," Thomas stammered, his polished composure beginning to crack. "Who ordered this?"

Claire took a step closer, her voice calm and steady. "I did, Thomas. You always assumed my family left me with nothing but a trust fund you could control. But you never looked into where that trust fund was invested."
