Previously: Walking down the aisle in her Navy dress whites, Melissa thought she was finally finding peace by marrying her late husband's brother. Then, the church doors flew open, revealing a ghost.

The Ghost at the Altar

Before the priest could utter the opening blessings, a thunderous crash echoed through the sanctuary. The massive front doors of the church were flung open, colliding violently with the stone walls. The warm sunlight was abruptly blocked by the silhouette of a tall, broad-supported man standing in the doorway. He wore a faded, salt-stained Navy flight jacket, and as he took a step forward into the light, a collective gasp rippled through the congregation. Melissa’s heart stopped. Standing before her was Julian.

He was thinner, his face bore the rugged scars of survival, but his piercing blue eyes were unmistakable. Behind him stood two armed Naval Criminal Investigative Service officers. The silence in the church was deafening as Julian walked slowly down the aisle Melissa had just traversed. He held a thick, sealed government folder in his hand, his gaze fixed entirely on his brother, Carter, whose face had drained of all color.

"Julian... how is this possible?" Melissa whispered, her voice trembling as tears welled in her eyes.

"I survived, Mel," Julian said, his voice raw with emotion. "But I didn't come back just to stop a wedding. I came back to deliver justice." He handed the folder to Melissa, his eyes pleading with her to look inside. With shaking hands, Melissa broke the official seal and began to read the classified documents. The contents shattered her reality. The coordinates of Julian’s final, ill-fated mission five years ago had been leaked to hostile forces. The source of the leak was an anonymous offshore account that had received millions of dollars. The owner of that account was standing right next to her at the altar—Carter.

Carter had betrayed his own brother, sending him to a watery grave to steal his inheritance and, ultimately, his wife. "This is a lie!" Carter shrieked, backing away as the NCIS officers stepped forward to apprehend him.
