Previously: When Sarah was disowned by her billionaire father for joining the military, she vowed to succeed. Years later, she returned to his exclusive gala with a rank he couldn't ignore.

A Bitter Reunion

The silence in the ballroom was deafening before a low murmur rippled through the crowd of dignitaries. Richard, ever the master of public relations, quickly tried to mask his shock. He forced a strained, artificial smile onto his face and stepped down from the stage, opening his arms as if to welcome a beloved child. He wanted the press to see a heartwarming family reunion, hoping to piggyback on Sarah's sudden, undeniable prestige.

"Sarah, my darling girl!" Richard exclaimed, his voice carrying fake warmth. "We had no idea you were in town. Please, come join us on stage."

But Sarah didn't move an inch. She stood her ground, her eyes cold as ice. Colonel Arthur stepped between them, his posture rigid. He made it clear that this was not a social visit. Sarah was here on official Department of Defense business. Feeling the eyes of the city's elite burning into his back, Richard quietly muttered a plea for them to take the conversation to a private holding room behind the stage.

Once behind closed doors, the facade crumbled. Eleanor stormed into the room, her face flushed with anger. She accused Sarah of trying to ruin her special night. Richard, however, was focused on something far more lucrative. His company was currently bidding on a massive, multi-million-dollar government defense contract, and he realized that having a Major General in the family was his golden ticket.

"You owe me this, Sarah," Richard whispered harshly, stepping into her space. "I built the foundation of your life. If you endorse our bid tonight, I will welcome you back into the family and write you back into the will. Think of what we can achieve together."
