My Husband Attacked Me at a High-Society Dinner, Unaware It Was a Setup
Previously: When Clara's husband Charles publicly assaulted her at an elite charity gala, he thought he had won. But he didn't realize the entire room—including his billionaire rival—was playing a different game.
The Trap Snaps Shut
Charles stared around the room, his chest heaving as the applause rang out. He slowly let go of Clara’s hair, stumbling back as he realized the guests weren't applauding his actions—they were applauding his downfall. Vincent pointed toward the upper mezzanine, where a professional camera crew and two police officers were standing.
"We are live, Charles," Vincent said, his voice echoing with cold authority. "Every board member, every major investor, and over five million viewers just saw you assault your wife. Your career is over."
The sheer terror on Charles's face was satisfying, but it was short-lived. As the police officers made their way down the grand staircase, Charles's expression shifted from panic to a twisted, desperate grin. He reached into the inner pocket of his olive green blazer and pulled out a folded, yellowed document.

"You think you’ve won, Vincent? You think you can take Lockwood Enterprises from me?" Charles sneered, waving the paper. "This is the final codicil to Clara’s father’s will, signed two days before his death. It nullifies all previous shares. He left everything to me."
Clara felt the air leave her lungs. She looked at Vincent, expecting him to dismiss it as a fake. But Vincent’s face had gone completely pale. He stared at the signature on the document, his confident posture collapsing.
"That... that is her father's actual signature," Vincent whispered, his voice trembling. "He didn't tell me about this."
Charles laughed, a manic sound that echoed through the silent dining hall. The police officers arrived at the table, but Charles held up the document like a shield. If the document was real, Clara was not only broke, but Charles still held absolute legal immunity regarding the company's assets. Clara felt her world crumbling around her. Her father had seemingly betrayed her from beyond the grave.
