“Father, this isn’t what it looks like,” Thomas stammered, his voice losing all of its previous bravado. He tried to hide the whip behind his back, but Charles’s bodyguards immediately stepped forward, disarming him with cold efficiency. Victoria quickly set her wine glass down, her face turning a ghostly pale as she tried to slip toward the side door. But a bodyguard stood firmly in her path, blocking her escape.
