My Police Partner Tied Me to a Tree, But He Forgot One Crucial Detail
Previously: When Officer Emily was betrayed and tied to a tree by her own partner in a desolate park, she didn't panic. She knew he had just sealed his own doom.
A Deeper Betrayal
David’s panic quickly turned to desperate rage. He drew his service weapon, pointing it directly at Emily’s chest. The red and blue lights were closer now, but the sirens were still muffled by the thick woods. "I'll end you before they even get close," he hissed, his finger tightening on the trigger. Emily knew she had to keep him talking. She had a hidden wire, but the signal in these deep woods was weak.
Before David could make a decision, footsteps crunched on the dry leaves behind him. Out of the shadows stepped Chief Miller, their commanding officer. Emily felt a surge of hope, believing salvation had arrived. "Chief! Thank God," she breathed. But her relief was short-lived. Chief Miller didn't draw his weapon on David. Instead, he stood beside him, a cold, calculated smile on his face.

"You should have taken the money, Emily," Chief Miller said quietly, adjusting his gloves. "It would have been much easier for everyone."
The realization hit Emily like a physical blow. The corruption didn't stop with David; it went all the way to the very top of the department. She was completely isolated, tied to a tree, with two corrupt officers holding all the cards. The backup cruisers she had summoned were responding to a generic distress call she had sent before being captured, but they didn't know her exact location inside the vast park.
David looked at the Chief, his confidence restored. "What do we do with her? They'll be here in minutes." Chief Miller raised his own weapon, aiming it at Emily. "We make it look like she died in the line of duty. A tragic ambush." Emily's heart hammered against her ribs. She had to use her last card. "If you kill me, the digital copies of the ledger will be automatically sent to the federal database in five minutes. I set a dead-man's switch," she lied, staring down the barrel of the Chief's gun.
