Previously: When a power-tripping officer tried to forcibly remove a woman in a hoodie from the military cafeteria, he thought he was putting a civilian in her place. He was dead wrong.

Refusing to back down in front of his subordinates, Captain Vance sneered and released his grip, only to reach for his radio. Within minutes, two Military Police officers burst through the double doors, their boots clicking sharply against the polished floor. Vance pointed a triumphant finger at Sarah.

"Arrest this civilian," Vance demanded, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction. "She is trespassing, disrupting the facility, and refusing to comply with a direct order from an officer."

The Unmasking

The lead MP, Sergeant First Class Miller, stepped forward to carry out the order. But as he approached the woman in the gray hoodie, his eyes widened. His face drained of all color, turning a ghostly shade of white. Instead of reaching for his handcuffs, Miller snapped his hand to his brow in a razor-sharp, trembling salute.

"Ma'am!" Sergeant Miller barked, his voice cracking with sheer terror.

Vance blinked, utterly dumbfounded. "Sergeant, what are you doing? I gave you an order to arrest her!" he snapped, his voice rising in panic.

Sarah slowly reached into the pocket of her hoodie and pulled out a laminated military identification card. She held it up directly in front of Vance's face. It was a gold-bordered credential belonging to Colonel Sarah Jenkins, the newly appointed Base Commander of Fort Meade, who was scheduled to take official command the following morning.

The silence in the cafeteria was absolute. Vance stared at the card, his jaw dropping as the realization of his catastrophic mistake washed over him. The woman he had just physically assaulted and threatened to arrest was his new commanding officer.

"I believe we need to have a private conversation about your understanding of authority, Captain," Colonel Jenkins said, her voice dripping with ice.
