Previously: When nine-year-old Lily walked into Arthur's cobbler shop barefoot, she never expected a simple act of kindness to change her life forever—or that she'd return decades later to save him.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

The search for Arthur took less than forty-eight hours, but the report Lily received shattered her heart. The investigator revealed that shortly after Martha had passed away, Arthur’s health had deteriorated. Left alone and grief-stricken, he could no longer keep up with the demands of his workshop. Worse, a ruthless real estate conglomerate had bought up his entire neighborhood, doubling the rents and aggressively evicting the long-term tenants who couldn't keep up. Arthur had been thrown out onto the street.

Lily immediately ordered her driver to head to the location provided by the investigator. It was a cold, rainy evening. When her luxury sedan pulled up to the curb near a downtown park, she spotted him. Arthur was huddled on a wooden bench, shivering under a thin plastic sheet, clutching a rusty old cobbler's hammer to his chest—his only remaining possession.

Before Lily could reach him, two burly security guards from the adjacent luxury high-rise marched over to the bench. One of them grabbed Arthur by his frail shoulder, shaking him violently. "Get up, old man! You're ruining the view for our high-paying tenants! Move along before we call the police!" the guard sneered, tossing Arthur's small bag of personal items into a muddy puddle.

Arthur wept, his hands trembling as he pleaded with them.

"Please, I have nowhere else to go. My legs are so tired. Just let me rest until the rain stops," he begged.

As the guard raised his hand to physically drag the elderly man off the bench, Lily felt a wave of pure, white-hot fury. She stepped directly between them, shielding Arthur with her own body. "Get your hands off him right now!" she demanded, her voice cutting through the sound of the pouring rain. The guards scoffed, entirely unaware of the storm they had just walked into.
