Previously: When a retired veteran is mocked by arrogant young soldiers during a shooting competition, he proves that true legends never lose their touch—and reveals a secret they never expected.

A Ghost From the Past

The stunned silence on the range was broken by heavy, measured footsteps. Base Commander Harrison walked out from the shadow of the command tower, his face grim. He stopped right beside William and looked down at the dark wolf tattoo on the veteran's arm. Without a word, the decorated general snapped a crisp, respectful salute.

"That is the mark of the Ghost Unit," Harrison announced, his voice echoing across the quiet range. "The most elite, classified marksmen this nation has ever produced. Show some respect."

Jax’s face drained of all color. The Ghost Unit was a myth among the recruits, a legendary group of phantom soldiers who operated in the shadows during the height of the Cold War. To realize he had just insulted their last surviving member was a crushing blow to his pride. He lowered his binoculars, staring at William with a mixture of awe and terror.

Commander Harrison turned to William, pulling a thick manila folder stamped CLASSIFIED from under his arm. "William, we didn't just invite you here for a demonstration. We have a situation. The Ghost has resurfaced."

William felt a cold chill run down his spine. He opened the folder. Staring back at him from the black-and-white photograph was a face he knew all too well. It was Marcus, his former spotter and closest friend. Thirty years ago, Marcus had betrayed their unit during a covert mission in Europe, leaving William for dead and selling classified intelligence to the highest bidder. William had spent three decades believing Marcus was dead, buried in some unmarked grave.

Jax, desperate to redeem himself after his humiliating display, stepped forward. "Sir, let me go with you as your support. I want to prove myself. I can help you track him."

William looked at the eager young soldier, ready to dismiss him. But as Jax leaned forward, a silver chain slipped out from beneath his high-tech collar. Hanging from the chain was a unique silver key engraved with the exact same howling wolf insignia as William's tattoo. William's breath caught in his throat. The key belonged to Marcus’s personal, heavily guarded safe. The arrogant young soldier was somehow connected to the traitor who had ruined his life.
