My Partner Left Me Tied To A Tree, But He Forgot One Crucial Detail
Previously: When Officer Emily is betrayed by her own partner in a desolate autumn forest, she keeps her composure. She knows something he doesn't—and justice is closer than he thinks.
A Partner's True Colors
Emily kept her focus, ignoring the cold steel pressing into her neck. She remembered their years of training together, and more importantly, she remembered Ryan's old high school football injury. He always favored his right side, leaving his left knee vulnerable when under pressure. With her hands still bound behind her, she waited for the exact moment his weight shifted as he stepped over a fallen branch.
With a sudden, explosive burst of energy, Emily threw her entire body weight backward and to the left, slamming her shoulder directly into Ryan's weak side. The sudden impact threw him completely off balance. He stumbled, his grip slipping as the knife swiped harmlessly through the air, missing her throat entirely.

In that split second, Captain Miller fired. The non-lethal beanbag round struck Ryan squarely in the chest, knocking him flat onto the damp, leaf-covered ground. The knife flew from his hand as officers rushed forward, pinning him to the earth and securing him in handcuffs.
Captain Miller rushed to Emily, quickly cutting the thick hemp ropes that bound her. She rubbed her bruised wrists, looking down at the man she had once trusted with her life. Ryan lay in the dirt, weeping as the reality of his ruined life set in.
"I'm sorry, Emily," he whispered, refusing to meet her eyes. "I didn't have a choice."
Emily looked at him with pity, but her voice was firm and resolute.
"We always have a choice, Ryan. You just chose yourself over the badge."
As Ryan was led away in the back of a cruiser, Emily stood in the quiet autumn woods, feeling the warmth of the flashing lights against the cold night. She had lost a partner, but she had saved her integrity, proving that true justice can never be bound by betrayal.
