The tension in the hospital room was suffocating. Amber stared at Steven, her voice a trembling whisper. "Steven, please tell me what he’s talking about. Do you know him?" Steven took a deep, shaky breath, turning to face Amber with eyes full of regret but absolute determination.

"I do know him, Amber. Mark is my younger half-brother," Steven confessed. "But I didn't find you by accident."

Mark smirked, thinking he had won, but Steven quickly turned his sharp gaze back to his brother. Steven explained that their late grandfather had established a massive trust fund, but with a strict moral clause: the inheritance would only go to the brother who proved himself responsible by building a stable family. Mark had abandoned Amber when he realized a baby would disrupt his carefree lifestyle, but when he learned about the trust fund's impending deadline, he formulated a cruel plan to snatch the baby back to secure the fortune.

Steven, who had long been disgusted by Mark’s manipulation, had been tracking his brother's actions to protect the family name. When he discovered Mark had left his pregnant wife destitute, Steven set out to find Amber and protect her.

Steven turned back to Amber, kneeling beside her bed.

"I am so sorry I didn't tell you sooner," he whispered. "I wanted you to love me for who I am, not what I have. I want to protect you and Lily forever, if you'll let me."
