Previously: Sarah was pregnant and grieving her late husband when an airport security dog reacted to her scent. What the K9 did next exposed a massive, dangerous secret.

The Ghost in the Terminal

The German Shepherd suddenly stood rigid, his ears pinning back as a low growl escaped his throat. Before Officer Miller could react, the dog let out a sharp, commanding bark and bolted toward the security checkpoint, nearly pulling the officer off his feet. Duke, the highly trained K9, was focused entirely on a tall man wearing a low-profile baseball cap and a heavy dark jacket near Gate 12.

"Duke, heel!" Officer Miller yelled, straining against the leash, but the dog refused to obey, dragging the officer through the parting crowd.

Sarah stood up, clutching her belly as she watched the commotion. As the man in the baseball cap turned around to see what the barking was about, Sarah's breath caught in her throat. The broad set of his shoulders, the sharp line of his jaw—it was a face she had wept over for twelve agonizing months. It was Mark. Her supposedly deceased husband was standing yards away, alive and breathing.

Mark’s eyes locked onto Sarah's pregnant form, and his face drained of all color. Instead of running to her, a look of pure terror crossed his features. He spun on his heel and fled toward the emergency exit. Sobbing and desperate, Sarah screamed his name, but her pregnancy made it impossible to give chase.

"That's my husband! He's supposed to be dead!" Sarah cried out to Officer Miller.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, Miller released the leash. Duke sprinted like a bullet, cornering Mark near the baggage claim. When Sarah finally caught up, panting and crying, Mark was on his knees, holding the whimpering K9. But before they could speak, two men in dark suits stepped out from the crowd, drawing suppressed handguns. They were members of the criminal syndicate Mark had been investigating—the very people he had faked his death to protect Sarah from. Now, her presence had inadvertently exposed him, and they were all cornered.
