Previously: When a heartless corporate auditor tore up a retired veteran's pension papers on a public sidewalk, he thought he was untouchable—until a fleet of black SUVs surrounded them.

The General's Wrath

Charles's smug expression instantly evaporated, replaced by a mask of sheer panic. He looked at the decorated General, then down at his own expensive leather shoes resting beside the dusty gold coin. Trembling under the intense gaze of the high-ranking officer and his armed guards, the corporate executive slowly knelt on the dirty concrete. With shaking fingers, he gathered the torn fragments of George's pension files and picked up the gold challenge coin, handing them up to the General.

General Sterling brushed the grime off the gold coin and gently placed it back into George's hand, offering a crisp, respectful salute. George returned the salute, his eyes filling with tears of relief. For years, he had felt invisible, but today, his service was recognized.

"Thank you, General," George murmured. "I thought everything was lost."

The General turned his attention back to Charles, who was scrambling to find his footing. "This man served under my command in some of the darkest days this country has seen," General Sterling said, his voice dangerously low. "And you treat him like garbage on the street?"

Desperate to save himself, Charles stammered, pulling out a tablet. "General, sir, you don't understand! This is an official audit. The board authorized these cuts to save the fund from insolvency. I am just doing my job!"

"The board?" General Sterling countered, taking a step closer until he towered over the trembling auditor. "I am the chairman of the federal oversight committee that funds your entire corporation. I know every line of our budget, and no such cuts were ever authorized."

Realizing his embezzlement scheme was about to be exposed, Charles panicked. He backed toward the building entrance, but the General's guards blocked his path. Knowing he was cornered, Charles's fear turned into a desperate, wicked malice. He pulled out his phone, tapping the screen rapidly.

"You think you can destroy me, General?" Charles hissed, showing his screen. "If I go down, I release the classified operational files from your 1998 campaign. It will ruin your career and destroy your family's legacy. Let me walk, or we both burn."
