Previously: When compassionate waitress Emily spots two shivering children outside her diner in a blizzard, she offers them warm soup. But a closer look at their tattered blanket reveals a shocking family secret.

A Shocking Discovery

As Emily tucked the plaid blanket tighter around the shivering little girl, her fingers brushed against the worn wool fabric. She froze. In the corner of the blanket, embroidered in faded yellow yarn, was a distinct, hand-stitched letter "S" surrounded by a tiny floral border. Emily’s heart skipped a beat, and her breath caught in her throat. She recognized that blanket instantly. It was the very same baby blanket their mother had knitted for Sarah before she ran away.

With trembling hands, Emily looked into the young boy's eyes.

"What is your name? And where did you get this blanket?" she asked, her voice shaking with emotion.
"My name is Toby, and this is my sister, Mia," the boy replied guardedly, pulling the blanket closer around his sister. "Our mom gave it to us. She told us it was the only thing she had left from her old life. She... she passed away last winter."

Tears spilled down Emily’s cheeks. These were Sarah’s children. Her own niece and nephew had been freezing on the street right outside her workplace. Before she could wrap them in her arms, the diner door flew open with a violent crash. Richard, the short-tempered owner of the diner, stood in the doorway, his face purple with rage.

"Emily! What do you think you’re doing?" Richard roared, stepping into the snow. "I don't pay you to hand out free meals to street trash! You're fired. Pack your things, and you two get off my property before I call the police!"

Richard lunged forward, grabbing Toby by the arm to force him off the sidewalk. Mia began to sob, clinging to her brother's waist. Emily threw herself between her boss and the children, pushing Richard back.

"Don't you dare touch them!" Emily screamed. "They are my family!"

Richard sneered, pulling out his phone.

"I don't care who they are. You're both going to jail," he hissed.

But before he could dial, a sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb, and a stern, elderly gentleman stepped out, his eyes instantly locking onto the scene.
