The sudden silence of the transit hub was deafening. Thomas stared at Marcus, his hands trembling as the reality of his mistake washed over him. He had just assaulted a highly decorated naval officer in front of dozens of witnesses. Panic seized the security guard. "Walk," Thomas hissed, grabbing Marcus by the elbow and steering him away from the main concourse before the crowd could fully process what had happened. He forced Marcus through a heavy metal door marked Authorized Personnel Only, locking it behind them. They were now in a dimly lit, narrow maintenance corridor, completely isolated from the public.

"You’re going to help me fix this," Thomas demanded, his voice cracking with desperation. "When they find us, you’re going to tell them this was just a routine security check. You’re going to tell them you cooperated willingly!"

Marcus looked at the older man, noticing the sheer terror in his eyes. "You assaulted an active-duty officer, Thomas," Marcus said quietly. "Trying to hide it will only make your sentence worse. Open the door."

But Thomas was beyond the reach of reason. He stepped back, his hand hovering over his utility belt. "I have a pension, a family, a sick wife!" he yelled, his voice echoing off the narrow metal walls. "I won't let you ruin my life over a mistake!"

They knocked violently on the door, demanding entry. Realizing his time was up, Thomas drew his taser, pointing it directly at Marcus's chest.
