Previously: When Sergeant Evans tried to humiliate Navy Lieutenant Ashley in front of her entire unit with planted evidence, he didn't realize his desperate scheme was being recorded by the barracks security system.

The Smug Accusation

The following morning, Ashley was summoned to the Base Commander’s office. As she walked in, she wasn't surprised to see Sergeant Evans already standing there, flanked by two military police officers. He wore a smug, victorious grin, believing he had successfully orchestrated the end of Ashley's military career. On the Commander’s mahogany desk lay a thick folder containing formal charges of physical assault and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

Commander Vance looked up, his expression incredibly grave. He had always respected Ashley, but the evidence presented against her was damning. Three written statements from Evans’ close associates backed up the claim that the female lieutenant had physically struck an enlisted sergeant without provocation.

"Lieutenant Ashley," Commander Vance said, sighing deeply. "These are incredibly serious allegations. Sergeant Evans claims you assaulted him during a dispute in the barracks. Before I sign off on this disciplinary action and refer this to a court-martial, I want to hear your side of the story."

Before Ashley could speak, Evans chimed in with a voice full of fake humility.

"With respect, Sir, the Lieutenant is unstable. She lost her temper and struck me when I tried to address a standard conduct issue. The witnesses saw it all."

Ashley stood perfectly at attention, her gaze locked forward. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, metallic flash drive, placing it gently on the Commander's desk.

"Commander, yesterday morning, the tech division completed the installation of the new wide-angle security cameras in the barracks common areas as part of our security upgrade," Ashley stated calmly. "I request that you view the footage from yesterday afternoon before signing those papers."

Evans’ smirk instantly vanished. His eyes darted to the small black drive on the desk, a sudden bead of sweat forming on his brow. Commander Vance plugged the drive into his computer, and the video immediately began to play on the large monitor.
