Previously: When Sergeant Andrew Miller tried to physically drag Rachel out of the military mess hall, he thought she was an unauthorized civilian. He had no idea who she actually was.

The Escalation in the Holding Room

Sergeant Andrew Miller merely laughed at Rachel’s warning, a cruel and mocking sound that echoed through the now-silent mess hall. He signaled to two military police officers stationed near the exit. Within seconds, Rachel was marched out of the building and into the pouring rain, escorted like a common criminal to a secure holding room in the base's security headquarters.

Ten minutes later, Andrew walked into the cold, sterile room, tossing Rachel’s leather notepad onto the metal desk. He leaned in close, a smug grin plastered across his face. He believed he was completely untouchable within the walls of his base.

"You're going to jail for trespassing on a federal installation," Andrew sneered, crossing his arms. "I'm going to personally make sure they throw the book at you, sweetheart. No civilian sneaks into my mess hall."

Rachel, despite her damp hair and the lingering pain in her scalp, sat perfectly upright. She didn't flinch. Instead, she pointed a single finger at the notebook on the desk.

"I strongly suggest you open that notepad and read the credentials on the very first page," Rachel said, her voice devoid of any fear.

Andrew chuckled, flipping the cover open with an arrogant flick of his wrist. But as his eyes scanned the official document inside, his smile instantly vanished. His face drained of all color, turning a sickly shade of pale gray. Stamped on the inner cover was the official gold seal of the Department of Defense Inspector General. Below it was Rachel’s name, listed as the Senior Special Investigator sent to conduct a classified audit on leadership abuse at Fort Meade.

Before Andrew could even utter a word, the heavy door to the holding room burst open. General Vance, the base commander, stormed in, flanked by his top aides. The General took one look at Rachel, then glared at Andrew with a fury that made the entire room tremble.
