A Seven-Year-Old Interrupts a Murder Trial with Her Father’s Last Recording
Previously: When Clara was framed for her husband's tragic death, her seven-year-old stepdaughter Maya walked into the courtroom with a pink recorder that changed everything.
The Voice from the Grave
An uneasy silence fell over the courtroom. Judge Ruth leaned forward, her sharp eyes moving from the small pink device in Maya's hand to Patricia's pale, sweating face. Patricia’s defense attorney tried to object, claiming the toy was inadmissible and that a child shouldn't disrupt the proceedings, but Judge Ruth waved him down.
"In my courtroom, when a child brings evidence regarding her father’s death, we listen," the judge declared firmly. "Bailiff, secure the device."
The bailiff gently took the pink recorder from Maya and handed it to the clerk, who connected it to the courtroom’s audio system. Clara held her breath, her hands shaking so violently she had to clasp them together. She remembered buying that toy with Thomas for Maya's seventh birthday. Thomas, a brilliant engineer, had modified the cheap toy with a high-grade digital microphone, joking that it would keep Maya safe. He had no idea how prophetic those words would be.

A static hiss filled the room, followed by the sound of heavy, labored breathing. It was Thomas's voice.
"Patricia... what did you put in my tea?" Thomas’s recorded voice was weak, gasping for air. "I can't... I can't breathe."
A collective gasp rose from the gallery. Patricia took a step back, her back hitting the witness stand. On the recording, Patricia’s voice came through, cold and devoid of the warmth she had projected in court.
"Don't worry about it, Thomas," Patricia's recorded voice said. "It's just something to make you sleep. Once you're gone, Clara will take the blame, and I will take custody of Maya—and your entire estate. You should have never left everything to her."
The courtroom exploded into chaos. Reporters scrambled, and jurors looked at Patricia with absolute horror. Patricia screamed, claiming the recording was a deepfake, a cheap fabrication made by Clara. She tried to run toward the exit, but two bailiffs blocked her path, their hands resting on their holsters.
