Previously: When a wealthy, arrogant shopper tried to have a simply dressed woman thrown out of a high-end jewelry store, she had no idea she was speaking to the brand's new owner.

The Price of Arrogance

An hour after leaving the boutique, Elizabeth sat in her penthouse office overlooking the city skyline. Her phone was buzzing incessantly, but she ignored it, letting her assistant filter the panic. The freeze on Aurelia's local corporate accounts had triggered a domino effect. Because Lauren’s husband, Richard Vance, relied heavily on Sterling Enterprises for his firm's commercial credit lines, his entire financial empire had just been plunged into a sudden, terrifying ice age.

The door to her office burst open, and Richard Vance rushed in, looking completely disheveled, his tie crooked and sweat glistening on his forehead. Behind him dragged Lauren, her smug expression completely replaced by a look of sheer, trembling terror.

"Elizabeth, please!" Richard begged, practically throwing himself across her desk. "There has been a massive mistake! My firm's credit lines have been frozen. We are facing liquidation by tomorrow morning if those accounts aren't restored!"

Elizabeth calmly sipped her tea, her eyes shifting slowly from Richard to the trembling Lauren. "There was no mistake, Richard. Your wife made it very clear that people who dress like me don't belong in luxury spaces. She tried to have me thrown out of my own boutique."

Richard spun around, his face flushed with rage as he glared at his wife. "You did what? You insulted Elizabeth Sterling?"

Lauren burst into tears, her voice cracking. "I didn't know! She didn't have a name tag, she was just standing there! I was trying to protect the exclusivity of the brand!"

Elizabeth set her teacup down with a soft click. "The brand’s image is built on elegance and respect, neither of which you possess. And as for William, your eager manager, he has already been dismissed for his appalling lack of professional conduct. But as for you, Lauren, the consequences are just beginning."
