Previously: When a young, arrogant soldier mocked a sixty-six-year-old veteran at a desert shooting competition, he thought it was an easy victory. But one flawless shot revealed a legendary secret that changed everything.

The Ghosts of the Past

The silence that fell over the firing range was suffocating. Jack stood frozen, his eyes darting between the digital target monitor and the faded black wolf tattoo on Thomas’s forearm. The arrogance that had defined his posture just moments ago evaporated, replaced by a cold, creeping dread. He knew the legends of the Ghost Unit—a black-ops sniper division so classified that their very existence was denied by the government. To realize he had just insulted their last surviving commander was a nightmare he couldn't wake up from.

Before Jack could stammer an apology, the low rumble of an engine broke the silence. A sleek, black SUV kicked up a cloud of dust as it pulled directly onto the range. Two men in sharp, dark suits stepped out, their expressions grim. They bypassed the range officials and walked straight toward Thomas. The lead agent, a man with cold gray eyes, held a thick folder stamped with red ink: CLASSIFIED.

"Thomas,"

the agent said, his voice carrying an authority that brooked no argument.

"Your retirement has officially been suspended. We need you back."

Thomas frowned, his weathered face hardening.

"I did my time, Agent Miller. I left that life behind thirty years ago."

Miller opened the folder, revealing a grainy satellite photograph of a compound hidden deep in the dense jungles of South America. But it was the smaller portrait clipped to the side that made Thomas’s breath catch in his throat. It was Marcus, his former spotter—the man who had supposedly died in the line of duty decades ago. The man who had betrayed their unit to an international cartel.

Jack, desperate to reclaim some authority, stepped forward.

"Wait! You can't trust this old man for a real mission! He's a liability!"

Agent Miller turned slowly, his eyes locking onto Jack with chilling intensity.

"Actually, Lieutenant Jack, we didn't just come for Thomas. We came for you, too. You are under arrest for leaking secure coordinates to Marcus's syndicate."
