Previously: When David returned from his military deployment, he expected a warm family reunion. Instead, he walked into a living nightmare of abuse, greed, and a shocking betrayal that changed everything.

A Web of Deceit

David rushed to his mother’s side, brushing the spilled food and broken porcelain from her curly grey hair. Helen clung to his military fatigues, her hands trembling violently. "David, you're home," she whispered, her voice cracked with terror. "Please, don't let her hurt me anymore."

From the heap of broken drywall, Ashley groaned, slowly pushing herself up. Her pink shirt was coated in plaster dust, and her eyes burned with rage. She stared at David, realizing he had witnessed everything, but instead of showing remorse, she spat on the floor.

"You think you're a big hero, David?" she hissed, nursing her bruised arm. "You just laid hands on me. I’ll call the police, and I'll make sure your military career is over before the sun sets!"

David stood tall, shielding his mother.

"Get out of my mother's house, Ashley. We are done,"
he said, his voice cold as steel.

Ashley let out a sharp, mocking laugh.

"Your mother's house? You stupid fool. Look around you. This isn't her house anymore. It's mine."

Helen looked up at David, fresh tears streaming down her face. She confessed the horrifying truth that she had kept hidden out of fear. For months, Ashley had been withholding Helen's heart medication, starving her, and threatening to commit her to a state-run psychiatric facility if she didn't comply. Just hours before David's surprise arrival, Ashley had forced the terrified elderly woman to sign over the deed of the family home. To make matters worse, Ashley had systematically drained Helen's life savings, using the money David sent home to fund her own private accounts.

Ashley sneered, pulling out her phone.

"I have the signed deed, and my father's lawyers are on speed dial. By tomorrow, your mother will be on the streets, and you'll be sitting in a military brig for domestic assault."
