Previously: After overhearing his stepfather's cruel plan to send him to a remote boarding school, fifteen-year-old Ethan confronts his mother, unleashing a long-hidden family secret that changes their lives forever.

The Turning of the Tide

Sarah stood frozen for a second, her face completely drained of color. Richard stepped into the living room, hanging up his phone with a smug, self-satisfied expression. He looked at Ethan, completely unbothered by the fact that the boy had heard everything. He shrugged his shoulders, adjusting his expensive suit jacket.

"It’s better you hear it now, Ethan," Richard said coldly. "You’ve had a free ride for ten years. But it’s time to face reality. You don't belong here anymore."

Ethan stood up, the knit blanket sliding to the floor. His voice shook with a mixture of anger and deep betrayal.

"How could you?" Ethan whispered, looking from Richard to his mother. "I thought you were my father. I did everything you ever asked of me!"

Richard scoffed, turning to Sarah. "Tell him, Sarah. Tell him how this works. You knew this day would come."

But Sarah didn't cry. Instead, a dangerous silence filled the room. She walked slowly toward the antique oak desk in the corner, her posture straightening. When she turned back around, she was holding a thick manila envelope. She marched over to the coffee table and slammed it down right in front of Richard.

"I did know this day would come, Richard," Sarah said, her voice dropping to a deadly, calm register. "Which is why I hired a forensic accountant three months ago. Open it."

Richard’s smug smile faltered. He frowned, hesitantly picking up the envelope and sliding the documents out. As his eyes scanned the financial statements and legal declarations, his face turned from pale to an ashen, ghostly white. His hands began to shake violently, the papers rustling in the quiet room. He looked up at Sarah, his voice suddenly cracking with terror.

"Where... how did you get these?" Richard stammered, his confident demeanor completely collapsing.

Sarah stepped closer, shielding Ethan. "You thought you could manipulate us, Richard. You thought you could control our lives and throw my son away when you got bored. But you forgot that this entire estate—including this house—belongs to me. And now, you have exactly twenty-four hours to pack your bags."
