My Stepmother Tried to Humiliate Me at My Sister's Wedding Until a Shocking Announcement Ruined Her Plans
Previously: When Julia arrived at her sister's high-society wedding in her military dress uniform, her stepmother tried to humiliate her. She had no idea who Julia really was.
The Stepmother's Threat
The silence in the cathedral was absolute. Helen’s jaw dropped, her face losing all color as she stared at the four-star general saluting her stepdaughter. The whispering guests gasped in shock as they realized the woman they had just looked down upon was actually a highly decorated Brigadier General.
"Good afternoon, General," General Vance said clearly. "It is an honor to have you here today."
Julia returned the salute smoothly. "Thank you, General. It is good to see you."

Helen tried to stammer an excuse, her voice trembling. "General? But... she’s just... there must be some mistake..."
General Vance turned a cold gaze toward Helen. "There is no mistake, ma'am. Brigadier General Julia Vance is one of the nation's leading intelligence officers. I suggest you show her the respect she deserves."
Humiliated in front of her high-society peers, Helen’s panic quickly morphed into desperate malice. She grabbed Julia’s arm and pulled her into the quiet shadows of the cathedral's vestry, away from the pews. Her eyes were wide with venomous desperation.
"You think you've won, don't you?" Helen whispered, her voice shaking with rage. "You think those stars protect you? I know the truth about your late father's final days, Julia. I have the financial records showing he diverted offshore funds. If I leak those papers to the press tonight, your security clearance will be revoked, and your precious military career will be utterly destroyed."
Julia stared at her stepmother, her heart pounding. The threat was severe. In her line of work, even the slightest hint of family financial scandal could trigger an immediate suspension of her high-level clearance. Helen smiled triumphantly, believing she had finally cornered her prey.
"Sign over your remaining rights to your father's estate, and leave this wedding right now," Helen demanded, pulling a document from her purse. "Or watch your entire life crumble before sunset."
