Previously: When pregnant Lily was caught eating leftovers at a diner, a kind stranger stepped in to buy her a meal. But she never expected who would walk through the door next.

An Unexpected Confrontation

David stepped outside and invited Lily into the warmth of the diner. He listened quietly as she devoured the warm meal, her voice shaking as she explained how her husband had abandoned her. David’s eyes hardened with quiet anger, but he kept his tone gentle, offering her comfort and safety. For the first time in twenty-four hours, Lily felt like a human being again.

But the fragile peace was shattered when the diner’s front door chimed. Lily looked up, and her blood ran cold. Walking in, hand-in-hand and laughing loudly, were Mark and his new girlfriend, Chloe. They were dressed in designer outfits, clearly coming from a high-end restaurant nearby. Mark’s eyes scanned the room and instantly locked onto Lily.

A cruel, mocking smirk spread across his face. He nudged Chloe, pointing toward the booth. They swaggered over, looking down at Lily with utter contempt.

"Well, look what we have here,"

Mark sneered, crossing his arms.

"From my wife to a beggar in a cheap diner. Are you already relying on handouts, Lily? How pathetic."

Chloe giggled, clinging to his arm.

"Is this the trash you were married to, Mark? She looks like she belongs on the street,"

she whispered loudly.

Lily shrank back into the booth, tears of shame stinging her eyes. She wanted to run, but her legs felt like lead. Before she could move, David stood up. He stepped between Mark and Lily, his tall frame completely blocking Mark's view of her.

"I suggest you watch your mouth and leave,"

David said, his voice dangerously low.

Mark laughed in David's face, tapping his expensive watch.

"And who are you? Her new boyfriend? I work for Apex Holdings, the biggest development firm in this city. I can have you kicked out of here in seconds."

David didn't blink. Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold-embossed black business card, holding it out. Mark took it, his smug grin still plastered on his face. But as his eyes scanned the printed name, the color drained from his skin. His hands began to tremble violently.
