Previously: When the legendary commander Borin failed to pull the sacred blade from the stone, he declared it impossible. But a lowly stable boy stepped forward, changing their kingdom forever.

The King’s Mercy

Borin lunged forward, his heavy broadsword aiming directly at Arthur's neck. But Arthur was no longer just a frightened stable boy. As the deadly steel descended, the legendary sword pulsed with a brilliant, protective light. Instinctively, Arthur raised the blade. The clash of steel echoed through the canyon like thunder, but it was Borin’s weapon that shattered into a dozen pieces.

The warlord stumbled back, staring in horror at his empty hilt. He fell to his knees, completely defenseless, expecting the young king to deliver a fatal blow. The knights watched in breathless silence, ready to witness the execution of their former commander.

Arthur stood over the defeated warrior, the glowing sword pointed at Borin’s chest. He looked at the man who had mocked him, starved him, and tried to kill him. But instead of striking, Arthur slowly lowered the blade and sheathed it at his hip. He reached down, offering his hand to the man who had sought his death.

"A true king does not rule through fear and blood," Arthur declared, his voice carrying across the canyon. "I offer you mercy, Borin. Join me in rebuilding this broken kingdom, or leave in peace. The choice is yours."

Tears welled in the hardened warlord's eyes. Overcome by the boy's unexpected grace, Borin bowed his head and placed his hand on the ground before Arthur. One by one, the rest of the knights fell to their knees, pledging their absolute loyalty to their new king.

Arthur had spent his entire life in the shadows, but he finally understood his true purpose. True power is not found in the strength of one's arm, but in the depth of one's mercy.
