The Giant Inmate Tried to Break Me—But He Didn't Know My True Identity
Previously: When a towering inmate tried to assert dominance over newly arrived Tessa in the prison yard, he expected her to beg for mercy. Instead, her reaction shocked the entire penitentiary.
The Final Hand
Night fell over Blackwood Penitentiary, and the silence in the cellblock was suffocating. I sat on my metal cot, listening to the distant, rhythmic footsteps of the guards. Suddenly, the electronic lock on my cell door clicked. The door slid open, and the massive figure of Kane stepped into the shadows of my cell. The guards were nowhere to be seen.
I stood up, preparing for a fight to the death, but I kept my voice calm. "Before you do this, Kane, you should know that Miller is going to kill you next," I said quietly. He paused, his brow furrowing in the dim light. I continued, "He’s a loose-end specialist. Once I'm gone, you're the only witness who can tie him to a murder inside a federal facility. Do you really think he's going to leave you alive to blackmail him?"

Kane stared at me, the harsh truth of my words sinking in. He knew how the cartel operated. He knew he was disposable.
"What do you propose?" Kane growled, lowering his fists.I told him about the hidden ledger—the one containing all of Miller's offshore accounts and cartel contacts. I promised to share the location and split the leverage if he helped me get a message to my trusted allies on the outside.
We staged a brilliant deception. When the corrupt guards came to check on the "accident," they found my cell empty, and Kane claimed I had escaped through the maintenance shafts with his help. In the ensuing chaos, my allies on the outside received the ledger. By sunrise, FBI agents swarmed Blackwood Penitentiary, arresting Warden Vance and apprehending Detective Miller at the airport as he tried to flee the country.
My name was fully cleared, and I walked out of those heavy iron gates a free woman. As I left, I looked back at the watchtower and saw Kane watching from the yard, nodding in silent respect. Sometimes, the only way to survive a system built on betrayal is to find an ally in the darkest, most unexpected places.
